Barrow have signed Charlie McCann, the 23-year-old former Forest Green midfielder.

McCann, who has played in youth set-ups at Coventry and Manchester United also spent time with Rangers.

The defensive midfielder joined the Manchester United youth academy from Coventry youth in 2018 at the age of 16, rising through the ranks until he was promoted from the academy in 2020.

Whilst McCann made 41 appearances for United’s Under-18s side, grabbing 12 goals and four assists, then going on to score five goals and make three assists in 21 games for the Under-21s.

He never made a senior appearance for the club before moving to Rangers in 2021.

McCann only made twenty appearances for the senior and reserve sides at the Scottish club before moving to Forest Green in January 2023.

McCann made 89 appearances, grabbing 15 goals and eight assists, but after back-to-back relegations and a further season in the National League he was released.

Speaking to the club’s official website McCann said: “I’m over the moon to finally get it sorted and I can’t wait to get started.

“I think the interest has been there for a while, but there’s been certain different situations which have slowed it down or whatever, but once I spoke to the Gaffer and all the rest of the staff, I knew straight away I wanted to come here.”
