Work is progressing on Carlisle Library’s £3.3 million revamp.
Cumberland Council said ‘great progress’ is being made on site, with several areas on the second and third floor now moving into their finishing stages.
The revamp of the library, which is part of the Lane’s Shopping Centre, started earlier this year and is expected to be completed by early next year.
As part of the progress, a temporary four week closure of the library on the first floor is set to take place in the coming months to allow for essential works to begin.
All rooms on the second and third floors are now complete and ready for decoration and builders cleaning is taking place.
The council said decoration work is set to take place next across all levels as well as work on the second floor toilets.
New library shelving and a wraparound desk will also be arriving to the building soon.
The revamp is being funded by the UK Government’s £19.7 million Carlisle Town Deal with additional investment from Cumberland Council.
It aims to revitalise Carlisle Library into a cutting-edge learning and community hub. The redesigned library will feature state-of-the-art facilities and services tailored to the needs of today’s users.
The project includes a complete overhaul of the library, with structural work, rewiring, and infrastructure updates to support modern technology.
Planned features include a children’s zone, social spaces, adult learning classrooms, study areas, and a display for The Jackson Collection.
