A Lake District hotel has been acquired by a hospitality group.
Derwentwater Hotel in Portinscale, near Keswick, and its Derwent Manor Apartments have been bought by Leisureplex Hotel Group for an undisclosed sum.
Owned by Coast & Country Hotels, it closed during lockdown in 2020, becoming one of the first major casualties of lockdown.
It did reopen and was put on the market for £7.25m in 2023.
Now agent Christie & Co has announced that the sale has been agreed.
It has 47 en suite guest bedrooms, 18 self-catered apartments, and one self-contained holiday cottage, along with a large open-plan lakeview conservatory and landscaped gardens stretching down to the edge of Derwentwater.
It will become the 25th site in the Leisureplex Hotel Group collection, joining the Royal Hotel Weymouth and Waverly Castle Hotel in Melrose also acquired through Christie & Co.
Leisureplex Hotel Group said: “We are thrilled to be adding the Derwentwater Hotel into the Leisureplex collection.
“This acquisition reflects our commitment to giving our customers more choice of hand-picked destinations and the opportunity to enjoy wonderful new excursions.
“The Lake District remains one of the UK’s most loved holiday regions, and we’re excited to offer our guests a fantastic new base from which to explore it.”
Graham Wilkinson, hotel agent for Christie & Co, said: “We are delighted to have worked with the vendors and purchasers of this prominent Lake District hotel, to secure its future as one of the largest and oldest hotels in the north Lake District.
“The new owners plan to revitalise the business over the months to come. This latest acquisition by Leisureplex Hotel Group reflects the ongoing interest to acquire significant hotel assets in the Lake District and Cumbria.”
The property was sold for an undisclosed sum.
