Cumbria’s three Northern League sides all have attractive games tomorrow.
That particularly applies to Penrith and Carlisle City who have home matches.
Penrith, on a good run at the moment, are the lowest-placed of the county trio in 11th and have the toughest game in prospect.
Shildon, who visit Frenchfield, are fourth with eight wins in their 11 games and just one defeat – and are generally considered favourites to go on and win the title.
It’s a tough one but Penrith manager Jim Nichols is pleased with how his side has been developing and he is looking forward to the challenge.
Carlisle City are ninth, two places and two points better off than neighbours Penrith. But they have played two more games.
Tomorrow’s opponents Newcastle Benfield have slipped after a promising start to the season and are now five points behind City.
It’s one Dan Kirkup will have targeted to improve their position in the table.
Kendal Town are highest of the Cumbrians in a challenging third place, five points behind leaders Whitley Bay with a game in hand.
They are on the road to Birtley Town tomorrow who along with Penrith are the League’s draw specialists.
Five of their 13 games have finished all square and they have only won three times.
Kendal didn’t play particularly well last week but did enough to beat West Auckland 2-1, which in many ways is a great trait to have when chasing promotion.
In the West Lancashire League both Millom and Milnthorpe Corinthians figure in the only two Premier Division games as Cleator Moor Celtic and Whitehaven are involved in Fred Conway County Cup action.
Millom have been on a losing run after a terrific start to the season and from joint leaders have slipped to ninth.
They will be hopeful of a return to winning ways tomorrow when Coppull United are their visitors.
Coppull have only won once in 12 games and in six away games have drawn once and lost the other five.
Milnthorpe are the only side below Coppull and they have a difficult home game in prospect against second-in-the-table Haslingden St Mary’s.
It’s back-to-back games between the two and Milnthorpe will take heart from the fact that last week’s clash in the Richardson Cup at Haslingden ended in a narrow 1-0 win for the home side.
Holker Old Boys lie 10th in North West Counties Division One North and they have the task of travelling to leaders Droylsden tomorrow.
Windscale have no Wearside League game as they are involved in the Fred Conway County Cup.
