Lake District slate mine launches ghost tours for Halloween

A Lake District slate mine is launching a ghost tour to bring the underground attraction to life for a spine-tingling experience.

Honister Slate Mine’s new tour will explore the haunting legends and true stories buried within the mountain’s tunnels.

Drawn from real historical events and tales passed down through generations of miners, the tour offers a journey by lantern light through Honister’s labyrinth of passages.

Guests will hear of the Phantom Miner, forever tapping in the dark, the Lost Level that claimed more than a few souls and the Grey Lady of Fleetwith Pike, whose sorrow is said to linger in the shadows of the mine.

Prentice Wilkinson-Weir said: “This tour has been a long time coming.

“After years of hearing eerie stories from our miners, we realised there was a powerful opportunity to bring these tales together – to honour the people who worked and sometimes lost their lives, here in the mine and the surrounding landscape. ”

The touts start on October 22 and tickets are limited. For more information, visit www.honister.com/product/ghost-tours
