The bomb squad carried out three controlled explosions after seven artillery shells and a mortar were found on a West Cumbria beach.
Whitehaven Coastguard Rescue Team was called last night, Thursday October 16, to Drigg.
They were asked to investigate after a number of pieces of possible ordnance were found by a member of the public.
Whitehaven Coastguard Rescue Team said: “Arriving on scene, we located, identified and marked all items, passing back the relevant information to our control room and EOD Bomb Disposal.
“Between our officer in charge, bomb disposal commander and control rooms, a plan was made for operations this afternoon.”
Today, Friday October 17, Whitehaven Coastguard Rescue Team along with Millom Coastguard Rescue Team and Royal Navy Bomb Disposal from Faslane Scotland deployed.
Coastguard rescue officers worked alongside EOD to ready the area and secure a large safety cordon.
