West Cumbrian Ben McCarron continues to find the net for his American university team.
Ben, who played for Cleator Moor Celtic, Workington and Carlisle City, notched his first career hat-trick last night as the (RV) Louisiana State University of Alexandria team beat North American University 3-0.
He said: “It feels really good and hopefully is the first of many. It’s just good to help the team win and pick up three points.”
LSUA head coach Mackenzie Young said: “Overall, a good three points. Three goals, a clean sheet, in a fantastic football stadium, against a good side. North American pressed us high from the beginning which gave us different challenges. They were highly energetic and we had a bit of adjusting to do.”
McCarron scored his first goal in the 37th minute, finishing off a good pass from Javier Moscardo. Just two minutes later, he scored again when he buried a close range chance off a corner.
McCarron completed his hat-trick in the 58th minute, flicking a header home off an in-swinging cross.
He is now the team’s leading scorer with eight goals.
LSUA travel to Victoria, Texas to take on A&M-Victoria tomorrow.
