When it comes to fundraising, few can do better than the big-hearted people of Maryport.
Yesterday the Sadie Reed Foundation held a car pull through the streets of the town.
A bucket collection along the route raised over £2,000 to add to an online fundraiser which has been running.
Members of Maryport Rugby League club did much of the pulling, putting their energy into this to dispel the disappointment of losing a big local final the night before.
Regulars from the Butcher’s Arms joined in with friends on the task – hauling a Land Rover around the town.
The pull started at the Swan Inn, Ellenborough down to Glasson Rugby League Club, into town and up Senhouse Street to the Thomas Henry, down Shipping Brow and then up Back Brow to the Butcher’s Arms.
From there it was back to the Swan before adjourning to Maryport RL club and more fundraising and entertainment.
It all took roughly four hours but there were essential pit stops at Glasson RL Club, the Thomas Henry and the Butchers, the team said.
There were two ropes attached to the vehicle and around eight to ten lads on each rope at any one time. At the same time there were five or six pushing at the back.
Toughest stretches were going up Back Brow and then up Church Terrace to the Swan.

The Sadie Reed Foundation was set up in honour of a young Maryport girl who took her own life earlier this year at the age of 14.
Sadie was known as a kind-hearted soul who lit up a room with her singing, dancing and witty sense of humour.
She was loved by so many and is sorely missed every day.
The foundation hopes to carry on her memory by helping others who may be in a similar situation to the one Sadie was in.
The aim is to help children and teenagers in the local community that are affected by mental health and low esteem.
So far the foundation has raised over £28,000 of their planned target of £50,000.
