An attempt by a person to rescue a stranded goat in north Cumbria resulted in the emergency services being called out.
Firefighters from Longtown, Carlisle East and Carlisle West stations, police and the ambulance service were called after receiving reports there was a person in the water today, Sunday October 19.
Longtown Fire Station said: “It followed an attempt to rescue a goat from the third arch.
“Thankfully the individual had gotten out of the river on our arrival and obviously the risks far outweigh any benefits in these circumstances and we are glad that there were no long term consequences.
“To prevent any repeat incident, water trained crews were used to try and retrieve the goat.
“The crews managed to push the animal to the bank where it was later recaptured further up the river.
“All in all a satisfactory conclusion, but please, never attempt a rescue yourself, call out the emergency services who are both trained and equipped for situations like this.”
