Improvements have been made to improve access to Kendal’s Bowling Fell.
The green space accessible from Beast Banks and Garth Heads is the site of the town’s first castle. The remnants of the bailey and motte are still there today at what is known as Castle Howe.
The area holds great historical significance and offers panoramic views of Kendal.
Kendal Town Council wanted to make sure that this area is signposted within the town and that routes to access were improved.
It has installed new railings on the steps from Garth Heads up to Bowling Fell and signs to highlight accessible routes.

Councillor Eamonn Hennessy, chair of the town council’s environment committee, said: “We believe everyone should be able to enjoy our town’s beautiful green spaces.

“These improvements will hopefully allow more people to access this area and reflect the town council’s ongoing commitment to community wellbeing.”
