Tuesday saw a return to Buttermere for a three-grade meeting where 35 hounds turned out.

People attending the trail had to take the scenic route to Buttermere with the main road closed but it didn’t deter people and there was a reasonable turnout of dogs.

With none of the championship contenders running it was a chance for others to step forward and pick up a few tickets.

The seniors had a slip of 14.

The weather was wet and cold as they were slipped but Huntsman’s Time for Denise and Jenny Bland and Graham Little got off to a great start as they began the climb up the fell ahead of Maeve for Christine Brownlee and Huntsman’s Quantum for Jim, Ann, Alan and Adrian Little.

The hounds can then be seen going through the fell past the trail field and kennel mates Huntsman’s Time and Huntsman’s Rebel had established a big lead ahead of the chasing pack.

As they climbed up the fell, the pair maintained their advantage.

However as they dropped into the bottoms Huntsman’s Time had opened up a 20 yard lead over Huntsman’s Rebel with Huntsman’s Quantum in third and that was the finishing order.

Foxparke Honk Honk for Robyn, Ellie, Grace and Nicola Napier and Brooke Butler finished fast in fourth from Lucky Lottie for Geoff Higgins.

The final ticket went to Miterdale Green Queen for Sophie Steele, and Zach and Jake Green.

The pups had an entry of 12 and as they were slipped the weather deteriorated making it difficult to see.

However, Nellie’s Joy and Nellie’s Pride for Jonty and Evie Moore and Jack Thompson were made out at the front ahead of Jenny’s Chance for Denise and Jenny Bland, Graham Little and Ella and Kyle Gallacher.

When they passed the trail field Jenny’s Chance was leading the way ahead of Brown Sugar for Graham and Les Reid, and Ellie Napier with Let It Be for Ruth and Charlie Dixon in third and Miss Becky for Glenis and Raymond Farren and Denise Bland in fourth.

Climbing up the fell it made a great sight to be able to see a line of hounds racing on well.

As they dropped down into the bottoms Jenny’s Chance had established a good lead and went on to win well and complete a double on the night for Denise, Jenny and Graham.

It was a good race for second with Miss Becky grabbing the verdict from a short head from Let It Be with kennel mates Nellie’s Pride and Nellie’s Joy in fourth and fifth.

The final ticket went to Heartside for Stuart Jeynes.

The final race of the day was for open maidens with a slip of nine.

When they went out Overwater Louie for Andy Horn and Foxparke Elliot’s Lad for Robyn, Ellie, Grace and Nicola Napier and Brooke Butler were leading the way ahead of Senorita for Malcom Holmes and Foxparke Majesty for Robyn, Ellie, Grace and Nicola Napier and Brooke Butler.

As they passed the trail field Offspring for Stuart, James and Jacob Jeynes had taken over at the head of affairs, leading from Overwater Louie, Thorn Bee for Martin, Molly and Teddy Burrow, Foxparke Elliot’s Lad and Senorita.

Climbing up the fell all nine hounds were pretty much together and carried on that way until they dropped down into the bottoms where leaders Foxparke Majesty and Senorita were having a good race.

On the line the judge was unable to separate the two hounds and declared a dead-heat with Thorn Bee in third and Foxparke Elliot’s Lad in fourth.

Overwater Louie was fifth and the final ticket went to Huntsman’s Delight for Jim, Ann, Alan and Adrian Little.
