Cumbrian pupils elevating potential in prestigious scheme

Pupils at a Cumbrian school have been taking part in prestigious scheme which aims to elevate their potential.

Year 12 students at Caldew School in Dalston, near Carlisle, were chosen to take part in Elevate following a stringent application process.

The programme launched by Story Group chairman Fred Story and Caldew School headteacher Vicki Jackson at Story Contracting Head Office earlier this month.

Successful applicants took part in a two-day skills development programme which culminated with a celebration event at the Caldew Sixth Form Centre.

The skills development day at the Halston Hotel in Carlisle focused on three key skills that will set them apart whether they choose to go on to university, a degree apprenticeship or straight into the working world.

The workshops facilitated by learning and development specialist Craig Hamilton and Rob Knowles, founder of Liberating Fitness used unique approaches to inspire the Sixth Formers giving them practical strategies for them to take ownership of their future choices and outcomes.

The three workshops were:

  • Crafting your unique brand
  • Emotional Intelligence
  • The public speaker within you

The first day finished with a special alumni panel session with former highly successful Caldew students where they heard about the journey they have been on since leaving school.

On day two, the students visited three work places; Forth Engineering, Co-Lab and Lodore Falls Hotel and Spa.

Mrs Jackson said: “It has been truly inspiring to watch our students embrace the opportunity to stand out from the crowd — building the attitudes, habits, and networks that will shape their future success.

“Through workshops, networking events, and personal development opportunities, they’ve taken bold steps toward their goals.

“We’re also incredibly grateful to our alumni, who were not so long ago in these very shoes, and who generously returned to share their journeys — offering honest reflections and valuable lessons learned along the way.”

Mr Story said: “It’s been brilliant to see this group of talented students grow and develop throughout this experience.

“They have had access to some of the most successful business owners in the county, as well as getting practical advice on how to make sure they make the most of every opportunity.

“This is the start of their career journey and I’m looking forward to seeing this first group of Story Elevate students achieve their full potential.”
