
JJ’s Workington Pool League took a break to allow the start of knock-out pool.
The Universal Tanker Solutions Handicap competition took centre stage as teams race to win 14 frames to progress to the second round, over two legs.
The Waverley look to make it a hat trick of cup wins and they took firm charge of their first round match. Alan Stephenson was on top form as he won both his singles for the Waverley to give them a commanding 10-4 win.
Harrington Legion A shut out Royal Oak as they took all 13 frames to leave them one frame away from the second round. The Legion’s B team also took a commanding lead as Will Kinsella helped his team establish a 9-4 first leg lead over Station Rd B.
The Pack Horse Pooligans edged Station Rd C in a close contest. With the lead swinging four times it was Mark Bell who clinched the final frame to give the Pooligans an 8-6 victory.
Pack Horse A and JJ’s A shared the spoils as JJs Dave Anderson dug deep to win the final frame as their match ended 7-7.
JJ’s B and The Grapes have one foot in the second round as they took a 10-5 and 13-2 lead respectively in their first leg encounters.
Red House A took a 6-3 lead but Mike Tuke helped the Miners claw their way back into the match as it finished nicely poised at 7-7. The Wash House Miners’ Niall Campbell’s impressive clearance helped his side earn an 8-8 draw against Station Rd A.
JJ’s D and E will need to make the most of their home advantage to overturn their 10-5 and 9-6 defeats against Moss Bay A and JJ’s C.
Tyler Binnington helped Bees Knees take an 8-7 lead into the second leg as they defeated the Railway while Vinnies Bar posted a handy 9-5 lead against Union Jack.
