Carlisle City to take on Cockermouth in Fred Conway County Cup

The second round of the Fred Conway County Cup starts tonight with the holders in action at Gillford Park.

Carlisle City, who beat Penrith in a tight final last season, entertain Cockermouth from the Cumberland County League (ko 7,45pm).

Dan Kirkup, while respecting the competition, plans to give valuable game time for some of his players who haven’t had many minutes recently in the Northern League.

Cockermouth go into the game on the back of a 4-0 Benevolent Cup defeat to Workington Juniors.

The next tie being played will be tomorrow night at Borough Park when Workington Reds entertain Whitehaven from the West Lancashire League.

Reds still have to appoint a new manager so Brian Dawson and Billy Redden will again be in charge.

Whitehaven are in a similar position after Jon Karl Benson left the club but they also have a problem in that several players also moved on as well and several youngsters are likely to be given a chance.

This tie also kicks off at 7.45pm.

The six other second round games have been scheduled for next month and are:

  • November 8: Maryport Athletic v Unisun Athletic; Whitehaven Miners Social v Windscale; Cleator Moor Celtic v Wetheriggs Utd; Fellside v Kirkoswald.
  • November 18 – Workington Juniors v Penrith.
  • November 19 – Greystoke v Carlisle United
