Kirkstone Pass has been closed following a significant landslip.
The A592 has been closed at High Kingate, around halfway between Troutbeck and the Kirkstone Inn.
The emergency closure was put in place yesterday, Wednesday November 5.
The road is closed in both directions.
The landslip, caused by the recent heavy rain, partly undermined the carriageway.
The road has been closed to allow technical and safety assessments to take place.
A diversion is in place via the A6.
A spokesman for Westmorland and Furness Council said: “Safety of road users is our main priority and this emergency closure is necessary to assess the situation and determine what needs to be done.
“Further updates will be provided when we know more.”
