Two Cumbrian sides are looking for progress in a national competition tomorrow as they tackle the second round of the FA Vase.
Carlisle City have been Cumbria’s torchbearers in the competition over recent years and tomorrow they have company in Holker Old Boys.
Dan Kirkup’s City entertain Rossington Main while Holker travel to Bradford to take on Albion Sports.
Both opponents play their football in the Northern Counties East Premier Division.
Kirkup, whose side had a great 2-2 draw at Northern League leaders Guisborough last week, go into the tie in expectant mood.
Kirkup told Cumbria Crack: “We’re as near full-strength as we can be except our goalkeeper on loan from Carlisle, Thomas Randall is Cup-tied.
“Arron Fitzpatrick, ex-Carlisle United has signed from Workington Reds in time to make his debut and Romeo Park, another ex-Carlisle and Reds, is back from injury to be involved in the squad.
“Rossington look a dangerous team on clips we have seen of them. They have a striker Ross Hannah who has been around the Football League with an unbelievable goal record for them.”
Rossington are third bottom of the League but because of Vase commitmemnts and other postponements have several games in hand of all the other sides.
Holker Old Boys had to beat Wythenshawe twice to set up the trip to Bradford.
After a referee error cancelled their penalty shoot out win at Wythenshawe they had to win 2-0 on Saturday at home to officially go through.
Fans are still talking about the brilliant goal from Jamie Hodgson from just inside his own half after he spotted the keeper off his line.
Joe McGladdery scored Holker’s second and they eventually won 2-1.
Albion Sports are 15th, three places higher than Rossington Main with three more points from two extra games.
It won’t have gone unnoticed by the Holker management that Albion lost 3-2 at home to Horbury Town last week, going under to goals in the 89th and 90th minutes.
It was a frantic finish because Albion had trailed 1-0, scored twice in the 82nd and 87th minutes and then lost it to those two late strikes.
