Pupils at Jericho Primary School, Whitehaven are preparing a spectacular event next Friday.
They are going out of this world to perform an outer space costumed theme of song and dance for Children in Need.
The event is tied in with the mammoth effort of 86-year-old cyclist, Gerard McCarten of Hensingham, who lives close to the school.
He has been cycling in daily stages since October 1 to reach the height of the highest mountain in our Universe that is Olympus Mons on Mars, which has a height of 23,000 metres.
Gerard’s progress has been closely followed by the senior pupils and they have watched him reach the summit of Everest, the highest land point on Earth before he went Out of this World to outer space.
His journey continued through storms and wind and rain and a minor fall which knocked the intrepid rider’s schedule off course.
Now, on Friday November 14, the pupils will be joined by Gerard at journey’s end to celebrate Children in Need as well as the two charities supported by the veteran cyclist – Cumbria Society for the Blind and Hospice at Home West Cumbria.
