Kendal Town are up to third in the Northern League Division One table after getting back on track.
After losing 2-0 at home to promotion rivals Boro Rangers last week they travelled to Thornaby and after a sticky first-half came through strongly to win 2-1.
Sonni Coleman has been a prolific scorer in the North East over the years – his nickname is Sonni Goalman – and he had been signed the previous day by Thornaby.
He was the difference between the two sides in the first half, although Kendal were happy to turn round all square at the break.
Josh Winder had given them a 12th minute lead but Coleman levelled three minutes later from the penalty spot.
Kendal boss Matt Flynn made some tweaks to his line-up in the second half and it proved an effective decision.
The Mintcakes started to control the game and James Bailey, with his 10th goal of the season, won it with a 64th minute strike.
Here’s what chairman Michael O’Neill had to say:
Penrith were expected to continue their good run at home to struggling West Allotment Celtic but had to settle for a 2-2 draw.
However, they had led 2-0 at the break without playing well and it was a day when they just couldn’t find their rhythm.
They led at the break with goals from their leading two marksmen Connor Shields after just four minutes and top scorer Luke Hunter three minutes before half-time.
It was probably an undeserved lead and Celtic deserved to get back into it and eventually snatch a point.
Keros Lizinde reduced the arrears in the 59th minute and Jordan Laidler grabbed the equaliser six minutes from the end.
Despite the draw it does keep Penrith’s unbeaten run going and they get the chance to make amends on Tuesday night when they host Newcastle Blue Star in the Brooks Mileson League Cup.
