A project which aims to strengthen climate resilience across the Lake District has been awarded £205,000 from the National Lottery.
The Heritage, Environment and Resilience Together is a £280,000 12-month scheme from the Lake District Foundation, which will include community grants for groups, farmers, landowners and organisations.
It has been awarded £205,000 from The National Lottery Heritage Fund.
The foundation said the scheme would bring together research, community engagement and practical delivery to address the urgent impacts of climate change on the Lake District’s landscapes and heritage.
The £50,000 community grants programme will aim to fund creative and practical pilot projects that respond to climate and heritage challenges-whether through restoring landscapes, testing new farming practices, or finding innovative ways to share stories of farming and heritage.
Sarah Swindley, chief executive of the Lake District Foundation, said: “Climate change is the greatest challenge facing the Lake District.
“The project brings people, science and action together to protect the landscapes and heritage that make this place exceptional.
“Thanks to National Lottery players, this funding will help us test bold ideas, strengthen resilience and ensure local voices are at the centre of shaping the future of our World Heritage Site.”
The project starts this month.
