
A Cumbrian parkrun has celebrated its first birthday.
Cockermouth Greenway parkrun, held on Saturday mornings, has been held 48 times over the last 12 months.
parkrun is a free, community event where people can walk, jog, run, volunteer or spectate. parkrun is 5k and aims to be inclusive.
In total, 2,403 people have run/walked/jogged their way to 4,315 finishes – the distance of which equates to just over halfway around the world.
Over the first year, 203 volunteers have helped put on the free, weekly, timed event adding up to a total of 770 volunteer occasions!
Tourists visit every week from different areas around the UK and across the world.
A celebration was held last Saturday to mark the anniversary. Cockermouth Greenway parkrun saw 143 runners and walkers – the second highest attendance ever -take, supported by 31 volunteers.
Celebrations continued at the community cafe at Cockermouth Rugby Club hosted by Cockermouth Women’s Institute.
