Weather permitting, the Cumberland County League will showcase a number of Cup games on Saturday.
Top of the bill will be the game at Milltofts where Maryport Athletic and Unisun Athletic will try again to play their Fred Conway County Cup second round tie.
It was postponed last week because of the state of the pitch and the large amounts of rain this week won’t have helped, but with Friday and Saturday forecasted dry with sunny periods fingers are firmly crossed it will be fit to play.
Ironically the two should have been facing off in Carlisle for the first round of the Benevolent Cup, but the County Cup takes preference.
Both are unbeaten in the Premier Division with reigning champions Maryport leading by four points but Unisun have two games in hand and are 100% so far.
The other five games are in the Benevolent Cup with just one of them an all-Premier Division affair.
Aspatria had their home game with Cockermouth called off last week and they should have ground advantage in the Cup with in-form Workington Juniors the scheduled visitors.
This will be the third meeting between the two teams already this season. They drew 2-2 in the County Cup and Workington went on to win the penalty shoot-out and then the Juniors were 5-2 winners in the League.
Keswick will be looking to make amends for their worst result since they joined the Cumberland County League.
A 10-1 loss at Workington Juniors in the Premier Division last Saturday was their heaviest defeat in the competition.
They are set to welcome the Division One leaders Dearham United who went top with a 6-1 home win against Northbank who had led the table before the game.
There’s an all-Whitehaven clash with Premier Division Mirehouse set to host Division One side Bransty Rangers who have only won once this season.
Premier Division Whitehaven Miners, who put up a good effort against Windscale of the Wearside League in the County Cup, last week have to travel to Northbank, smarting from their heavy defeat at Dearham.
In the other tie Whitehaven reserves of Division One entertain the Premier Division’s bottom side Cleator Moor Celtic reserves.
