A Cumbrian town has been named the UK’s friendliest place for dogs.
Cockermouth and Keswick were in the running for the title in the DogFriendly Awards town/city category, along with Bury St Edmunds.
And it was Cockermouth that came out on top.
Winners were chosen by public vote and were announced yesterday, November 20, in London.
The DogFriendly Awards recognise and reward dog friendly places and pet businesses that go the extra mile for the benefit of the UK’s 12.5 million dogs and their owners.
In Cockermouth, the entry was made by the town’s chamber of trade.
Prior to the ceremony, Joe Murray, co-chair of the chamber, said: “We are chuffed to bits to make the finals of this competition.
“We know we are up against some tough competition. Keswick has a great reputation for welcoming dogs and Bury St Edmunds won the title in 2024 but we hope we have a strong chance.
“Whatever the outcome, I hope that this nomination really raises the profile of Cockermouth. We know this is a brilliant place to live, work and visit – and your dogs can do that too!”
