Unisun Athletic’s chance to go top of table

Unisun Athletic have the chance to go top of the Cumberland County League tomorrow.

They trail leaders Maryport Athletic by two points and the champions don’t have a fixture this weekend.

But it is not one of the easier assignments they face as they travel to Whitehaven Miners Social, a side capable of upsetting the apple cart.

Indeed if they upset their Carlisle visitors with a win them they would join them in joint second place.

However Unisun go into the game in good heart after beating Maryport Athletic 1-0 last week in the Fred Conway County Cup.

To add to the intrigue Mirehouse could even steal into second place themselves if they beat visitors Cockermouth and Unisun slip up at Miners.

Wigton Harriers are the only team to take points off Maryport Athletic from a 0-0 draw at Barton Laws, and they are at home tomorrow against Keswick.

The fourth Premier Division game sees Aspatria at home to Cleator Moor Celtic reserves.

Northbank have the opportunity to go top in Division One when they host Carlisle City Development who are bottom of the table.

Although they slipped up recently against leaders Dearham, they are level on points but have played a game more.

The other two Division One games are Windscale reserves v Whitehaven Miners Development and Whitehaven reserves v Bransty Rangers.

There’s also one Conway Cup-tie scheduled – Cockermouth reserves v Workington Juniors.
