Kendal Farmers Market will host a special producers’ market as part of the town’s Christmas lights switch-on this week
The switch-on event is organised by the town council and takes place on Friday, November 28.
From 9am to 3pm, and from 4.30pm to 7.30pm, the regular market of 36 local producers will showcase seasonal produce, artisan foods, handmade crafts and thoughtful gift ideas to help visitors complete their festive preparations.
Visitors will have the chance to meet the people behind the produce, from bakers and brewers to cheesemakers, growers and makers.
The market will offer stocking fillers, distinctive Christmas presents including Kendal Farmers Market gift vouchers, and a selection of delicious treats for the festive table.
After a short reset, the market will reopen at 4.30pm with a fantastic range of popular stalls, including local favourites such as: Mansergh Hall Hog Roast, Bean and Dunne Coffee, Wagtail Kitchen Hot Pies, Lovingly Artisan Bakery, Ginger Bakers, Mrs Kirkham’s Lancashire Cheese Co, Piperhole Goat Farm Cheese, Sweet Treats by Martin Frickel, Provino Wines, Cross Apiary Honey, Dans Plants, Sillfield Farm Meats, Martindale Muscovies and Waterfowl Eggs, The Flying Chocsman, Gan Yam Brewery, Pennington’s Spirits and Liqueurs, Pistachio and Moore, and Natural Kendal. They will be joined by The Milking Parlour, serving festive ice cream and waffles; the Christmas Jumper Stall; Kiwi BBQ; and a varied selection of local craft producers.
The build-up to the big light switch-on begins at 5.10pm as Drum Nation take to the streets, followed by the main event at 5.30pm when the town mayor Richard Sutton, throws the switch to illuminate the festive lights.
After the switch-on, there will be plenty for families to enjoy. Rag Tag Arts will host creative activities for children, and Kendal Concert Band will perform a programme of Christmas carols in the Market Place. The Kendal Rinteln Association will be serving mulled wine beside the town Christmas tree, Santa will be on duty at the Birdcage, and fairground rides by the Town Hall will help keep younger visitors entertained.
Dance Atikk will present their spectacular routines outside Kendal Library, followed by performances from the Amabile Choir and local musician Matt Hayton. Many local shops and cafes will also remain open for late-night browsing and refreshments.
