A Lake District chef has won a prestigious national award.

Jack Bond, co-owner of the Michelin-starred The Cottage in the Wood at Whinlatter, near Keswick, has been named Hotel Restaurant Chef of the Year at the 2025 Hotel Catey Awards.

More than 750 of the hotel industry’s leading figures gathered at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge in London on Monday to celebrate the very best of UK hospitality.

The Hotel Cateys are among the industry’s most respected accolades, honouring exceptional talent, creativity and dedication across hotels nationwide.

Jack said:  “It’s a real honour to receive the Hotel Catey award for Restaurant Chef of the Year.

“I’m incredibly proud of our team at The Cottage in the Wood, especially as the restaurant team were also shortlisted for the Front of House Team of the Year award.

“Winning this is very much a shared achievement; representing the Lake District and the North West on a national stage means a great deal to us.

“Every single one of us in the team is committed to championing the ingredients and producers from across the region who allow us to do what we do, creating dishes that celebrate some of the finest produce available anywhere in the world.”
