Barrow denied Newport County their first home League win since March with a late equaliser for a 2-2 draw at Rodney Parade.
Scott Smith was the saviour for the Bluebirds when he headed in his first goal for the club in the 84th minute.
New County boss Christian Fuchs was taking charge of his first home game and must have thought he was heading for a much-needed win.
But Smith was first to reach a cross from Connor Mahoney and level, a point that kept Barrow in 18th just four points clear of the drop zone.
Newport’s position is even more concerning as they currently sit five points from safety and eight behind Barrow.
Barrow had been on the back foot for much of the first-half and it was no surprise when the home side took the lead. It came after 39 minutes when Anthony Glennon curled in a well-taken free-kick for only his second goal in Newport colours.
However, it was somewhat against the run of play when Barrow equalised on the stroke of half-time when Niall Canavan found Ben Whitfield who produced a clinical finish.
Newport had regained the lead in the 63rd minute when clever play from outstanding Leicester loanee Sammy Braybrooke set-up Courtney Baxter-Richardson for their second goal.
Barrow had been pushing strongly to save the game and Smith’s header earned them a valuable point.
