Plans are in the pipeline to build a new private crematorium, memorial gardens and tea room in north Cumbria.
1&K Enterprises Ltd want to build the complex on land around two miles east of the village of Smithfield, which near Brampton.
The 3.4 hectare site, near the farms Halfway House and Huntley Bank, is currently used for agriculture.
The development would include a crematorium, chapel, tearoom and memorial gardens.
A car park would also be built.
The firm has submitted a screening request to Cumberland Council to see if an environmental impact assessment would be required before it makes a full planning application.
An assessment would evaluate the likely impacts the development will have and identify ways to mitigate any effects.
They are usually necessary for major developments.
The firm’s agents said it did not believe an environmental impact assessment was needed.
It added: “It is our view that the proposed development may be considered a Schedule 2 development [which may require an environmental impact assessment] but will not have significant environmental impacts.”
