Kendal Town paid the price for a poor start in their big Northern League game at Shildon.
They trailed 3-0 at half-time, conceded a fourth and then in a dramatic finish scored three times to give the home side a big scare.
Jon Weirs opened the scoring after ten minutes; Gary Brown doubled the lead on 22 minutes and Andre-Vasile Ardelean made it 3-0 on the half hour.
When Luke Spalding added a fourth ten minute into the second-half it looked to be all over but after manager Matt Flynn made changes fortunes changed.
Noah Sawkins scored on 80 minutes; James Bailey added a second on 89 minutes and Jack Milburn made it 4-3 in the fifth minute of time added on.
A remarkable recovery couldn’t quite earn a point but it did win back some pride for Kendal after their horror start.
Shildon and Kendal remain second and third respectively but the north east side are now four points ahead of their rivals, and from a game less.
