A man has been jailed for an arson at a Carlisle flat.
At Carlisle Crown Court, Daniel Carter, 26, of Reeth Road, Carlisle, was jailed for two years and eight months for arson with intent to endanger life.
The court heard that police were alerted to the fire on June16 this year at 12.45am to the flat on Citadel Row after there were suspicions about how the fire had started.
Investigations found that there were several ignition points were the fire was started with household items set alight.
Damage appeared to also have been caused to the flat other than by the fire.
The estimated damage to the flat was £60,000.
Detective Emma Barker, of Cumberland CID, said “Fires can quickly become out of control putting people’s lives at risk.
“Carter made significant comments at the scene about being responsible for the fire.
“Thankfully, in this case the occupants of the property and surrounding flats were evacuated to safety with no one injured.”
