Lowther Castle’s Gingerbread Cabin to open for festive treats

Lowther Castle Gingerbread Cabin

Lowther Castle’s new Gingerbread Cabin is open for business this Christmas.

It is open from this weekend for festive treats in the courtyard at Lowther.

The idea, says Janet Clark – head of front of house at Lowther – came from group creative director Vanessa Lowther.

Janet said: “Vanessa wanted to do something a bit different this year, to bring the courtyard to life, to make the serving of mulled wine, hot chocolate and gingerbread lattes a thing of celebration.

“Gingerbread is the theme not only in the courtyard but also in the shop and across the gardens with this winter’s story trail.

“It has been great fun putting the cabin together and we very much hope that when visitors come to Lowther, it will put a smile on their faces. It’s kind of bonkers and we love it!”

The secret behind the Gingerbread Cabin is a former shipping container, a pair of extra large Christmas baubles, a brilliant metal worker from Cumwhinton, the roof of a cattle barn, several tins of Ashes of Roses paint.

The cabin will be open from Saturday, December 13, and will remain in the Courtyard throughout the Christmas holidays and beyond.
