
It’s a crucial weekend for Cumbria’s three teams in the Northern League with games against teams in the top five.
Kendal Town are in third, and after losing 4-3 at second-placed Shildon last week, have the chance to hit back at home to leaders Guisborough Town.
Carlisle City have put together a fine run of results, which included last Friday’s 3-1 win at West Auckland and they will be hoping to continue their winning sequence at Boro Rangers who are fifth.
Penrith didn’t play last week and are desperate to turn draws into wins after nine in the first half of the season. They travel to fourth in the table Whitley Bay, who were the early season pace-setters.
It’s a tasty, but tough round of games for the Cumbrian trio and all coming out of them unbeaten would signify positive results.
In the North Western Counties First Division North the fixtures are stacking up for Holker Old Boys after postponements on Saturday and Tuesday.
They currently lie tenth but have up to four games in hand of ,most of the teams ahead of them, although the lack of match sharpness might affect their return to action tomorrow.
They visit Darwen who are third in the table, six points ahead of the South Cumbrians but they have played four extra games.
In the West Lancashire League Millom are another club who have been seeing their recent games postponed through waterlogged pitches.
They have a scheduled home game tomorrow with Burscough Richmond so will be hoping to get back into action.
Whitehaven were the only Cumbrian side to play last week, losing a big home game with fellow strugglers Coppull. They are away to Astley and Buckshaw United, a team who came up from Division One with Millom.
They will be desperate to bring something back, needing to stay in with a chance of turning things round when new manager Brian Dawson takes over the bottom side in the new year.
Cleator Moor Celtic return to action tomorrow with a trip to third-in-the-table Haslingden St Mary’s while Milnthorpe Corinthians will look to continue their revival at home to Poulton.
In the Wearside League Windscale play their final game of the year before the Christmas/new year break at home to Farringdon Detached.
The visitors had a good 2-1 win over League leaders Gateshead Leam Rangers in a Cup tie last week but the previous week lost 6-2 in the League at Easington Lane.
They currently sit 6th in the table, five places and ten points better off than Windscale.
