Workington Reds manager Billy Barr is still active on several fronts as he bids to strengthen his squad for the second-half of the season.
He has been speaking to several players over the last week or so and they are considering their options, with answers expected over the next few days.
The manager’s first signing for the club Tyler Magliore might soon be on his way, however.
Hopefully he is still available for Saturday’s game against Stockton but that could be his farewell appearance.
Magliore, who has been impressive since his arrival at Borough Park, has been on trial with a Scottish Championship side who will be making a decision soon.
But that was always going to happen when the former Northampton defender joined Reds after Barr’s appointment. He had been left without a club after his release by the Cobblers and has looked a class act in a red shirt.
The manager’s second signing for the club Isaac Whitehall still has to make his debut, being ready to play last Saturday but Reds were left without a fixture.
He had a good reputation at Blackburn Rovers but a wretched run of luck with injuries cost him a professional career.
Barr has been keen to give him a route back to the game but he now has a job outside football and availability through shift work has proved a problem.
However Whitehall will be in the squad on Saturday in what is expected to be a tough game against a side who won the home match earlier in the season 6-0
Barr watched the NPL Premier Division game between Warrington Ryland and Lancaster City on Saturday in which the home side won 2-0.
He was impressed with both sides, describing them as “both good teams, experienced and athletic in forward positions, probably why they are in the top five.”
Lancaster visit Borough Park on New Year’s Day with Reds travelling to Cleethorpes now on Saturday, December 27 instead of on Boxing Day.
Ahead of Saturday’s clash with Stockton, Barr has only one injury concern at the moment – Dav Symington who has a knee problem and will be assessed at training tonight.
