Cumbria’s three representatives in the Northern League all have away fixtures tomorrow.
Kendal Town and Penrith face trips to clubs who enjoyed encouraging victories in mid-week.
Crook Town entertain Kendal and they had an excellent 2-0 win over Boro Rangers which lifted them to 15th in the table.
If Rangers had won the game they would have gone fourth and Kendal would have replaced them in fifth.
Kendal are extra-keen to get back to winning ways having lost on successive weeks to two of the leading sides Shildon (4-3 away) and Guisborough (2-0 home).
Leaders Guisborough went six points clear but had to work hard in mid-week to beat lowly West Allotment Celtic 3-2.
Penrith resume with another away trip after last week’s 1-0 defeat at Whitley Bay but will expect to get something from their game at Whickham.
However bottom of the table Whickham also had a good result on Tuesday when they beat Newcastle Blue Star 1-0.
Carlisle City lost 4-0 at Boro Rangers last week and this time pay a visit to Marske United who are third bottom, battling to avoid the drop.
So while Dan Kirkup’s side took on a promotion chasing side a week earlier, it will no less intense against a side battling to stay in the Division.
There’s a big game in prospect for Holker Old Boys in NW Counties North Division One when they travel to Nelson.
Things are very tight at the top and in the play-off places and although 10th the Old Boys are just three points off the last play-off berth. Nelson, though, are sixth but on the same points as Droylsden who are in the last play-off position.
In the West Lancashire League Cleator Moor Celtic are due to travel to Blackpool Wren Rovers. They are 11th in the table, five points behind their hosts who lie 7th.
There’s a Cumbrian derby in prospect when Whitehaven travel to Milnthorpe Corinthians.
Whitehaven are desperate to start picking-up points with new manager Brian Dawson set to take over in the new year.
Corinthians have been revived in recent weeks, climbing out of the bottom two, but they did lose last week 3-1 at home to Poulton.
Millom are just wanting to play some football after a spate of postponements. They face a testing trip to thid-in-the-table Haslingden St. Mary’s.
The Wearside League are taking their Christmas/new year break and so too are the Cumberland County League and the West Cumberland Sunday League.
