
The World Marmalade Awards has raised over £23,000 for a Cumbrian hospice charity in 2025.
Held at Dalemain, near Penrith, the awards celebrate the best of preserves supports Hospice at Home Carlisle and North Lakeland.
Now in its 21st year, it has raised almost £350,000 for the charity – this year, the total was £23,791.
Every year the winner can choose a charity to donate money to and Hitomi Wakamura, of Japan, the 2025 Homemade winner also nominated Hospice at Home
Carlisle & North Lakeland as her charity of choice.
A percentage of the sales of the winning marmalade at Dalemain – £2,031 – will go towards the charity.
The cheque presentation ceremony to hospice at home took place at Dalemain Mansion, with volunteers and local judges, many of whom have supported the awards since their creation.
Representatives from hospice at home included president Lady Elizabeth Leeming.
She said: “This wonderful donation is more needed than ever due to the many challenges facing hospice funding.
“The loyalty of everyone who contributes to the Awards, through their time, energy and marmalade making skills, is greatly valued by all at Hospice at Home Carlisle and North Lakeland.
“We’d like to say a very big thank you to everyone at Dalemain, in the community and those further afield who enabled this extraordinary sum to be gathered.
“As a result, there will be many patients and their families in our local area who will benefit from day and night nursing care and our wide range of other services when one of their own is nearing the end of life.”
The 2026 awards opens for entries on January 1 and close on February 2.
The winner of the 2026 awards will be announced at the Marmalade Festival on Saturday April 25.
