A new community space will be created at Ulverston’s Ford Park, thanks to the GSK Legacy Fund.
The charity behind the park was awarded £610,000 from the £2 million legacy funding and it will create a new building.
It said it will be a more accessible community space to support the park’s long-term future.
The building will allow Ford Park to host bigger events and fundraisers, expand educational visits and create more opportunities for the local community to use and enjoy the park.
Designed with sustainability in mind, the new building will be a planet-friendly construction, including solar panels intended to cover the charity’s energy needs.
Representatives from GSK and Barrow and Furness MP Michelle Scrogham visited Ford Park to present the charity with a cheque for £610,000.
Neil Fleming, chair of board of trustees, said: “This building will be a wonderful asset to Ulverston, extending the range of indoor and outdoor community activities that we can host at Ford Park, and helping to safeguard the park’s future.
“The park staff and trustees are delighted that this project was selected by the GSK task force, and are immensely grateful to GSK for the funding that we have now received.”
