Carlisle City kicked off the Christmas programme for Cumbria’s three clubs in the Northern League Premier Division.
But it was a disappointing Boxing Day as they went under 1-0 at home to Newcastle Blue Star.
The only goal of the game came on 11 minutes from Blue Star’s Jakub Zych and that was enough to earn all three points.
It’s quite a week coming up for promotion-chasing Kendal Town in the Northern League Division One.
The Mintcakes face back-to-back Cumbrian derby clashes against Penrith and Carlisle City.
Matt Flynn takes his team to Penrith tomorrow and then next Saturday, January 3, they will have Carlisle City as visitors to Parkside Road.
Kendal are currently lying fourth in the table with Carlisle City in eighth and Penrith placed 11th – with none of them ruled out of a promotion push.
In the NW Counties Holker Old Boys had slipped to 12th but with games in hand do still consider themselves play-off contenders.
They went into action yesterday afternoon at home to Garstang who are next to bottom of the league. It looked a good opportunity to climb the table again and they didn’t disappoint, clocking up a 3-0 win.
Two goals inside five minutes at the end of the first half from Luke Davey (38) and Brad Hubbold (43) put Holker in charge.
Davey added his second on 56 minutes as the Old Boys were comfortable and after the win it hoisted them to ninth in the table just three points off the play-offs.
In the West Lancashire League and Wearside League fixtures resume in the new year, Saturday, January 3.
