
Two men from the Doncaster area have been arrested after an early hours search of their vehicle found items that could be used to commit burglary.
South Lakes Police said at about 3.30am today, December 28, officers stopped a vehicle on Vicarage Road in Ambleside.
They said conversation with the driver and passenger raised suspicions and both they and the vehicle were searched.
Subsequently, the two men, from the Doncaster area, were arrested on suspicion of going equipped for theft.
Police said a number of concerning items were found.
Both remain in police custody at Kendal while further enquiries and interviews are conducted.
South Lakes Police said: “We believe business premises were going to be targeted and encourage anyone who may may have CCTV or witnessed any suspicious activity around their premises overnight in the Ambleside, Grasmere and Windermere area to get in touch.”
