A Cumbrian Coastguard team was called out after a live flare was spotted on a beach.
Millom Coastguard Rescue Team said they were called out yesterday, December 27, in the late afternoon to the foreshore at Haverigg Point.
A floating orange daytime smoke flare had been found and reported by a member of the public.
The team said: “They furnished us with a very accurate location. We soon located the item, made it safe, then removed it from the beach. It will be disposed of at a later date.
“Many thanks to the gentleman who reported it. If an inquisitive child had got hold of it there could have been some serious burns to deal with.”
