Two men have appeared in court accused of a Carlisle city centre street robbery.
Martin Forster, 33, and Paul Muir, 44, jointly face one charge. This alleges that they both robbed a man of £20 cash on Monday, December 29.
Forster and Muir appeared together in the dock at Carlisle Magistrates’ Court this mornIng.
During a short hearing, the two men both spoke to confirm their personal details, and to indicate that they would enter pleas of not guilty to the allegation they jointly face.
Prosecutor George Shelley said the charge arose out of an incident which was said to have occurred as the complainant walked from the city’s railway station towards The Crescent, at the top of Botchergate, at around 6pm.
It was alleged, said Mr Shelley, that threats were made to that man, and that £20 cash was handed over.
The charge of robbery is classed as indictable only and means it is so serious that it can only be heard at a crown court.
Forster, of Graham Street, Carlisle; and Muir, of Logan Road, Gretna, are both due to appear at Carlisle Crown Court for a plea and trial preparation hearing on February 2.
In the meantime both have been granted bail.
Conditions were attached which prohibit the pair from associating with each other and from contacting — or attempting to contact — the complainant in the case.
