A West Cumbrian road and bridge will close this week to allow for removal of tree debris.
Recent flooding has left a large amount of debris lodged against Wath Bridge in Cleator Moor, creating a potential flood risk.
Cumberland Council said specialist contractors and divers had been monitoring river conditions to ensure safe removal.
The first safe window has only just opened, so work will begin this week.
The Cleator Moor to Egremont road and the Cleator Moor to Ennerdale road will close from tomorrow, Friday January 2 until Monday, January 5.
The bridge will be closed tomorrow and Saturday, January 3, between 8am and 4pm.
On Monday, the bridge will be closed for several hours – although no times have been revealed.
