Police and drivers helped herd loose sheep alongside the A66 into a nearby field.
Eden Neighbourhood Policing Team were called to reports of four sheep alongside the Appleby bypass yesterday, December 31.
Eden police said: “Officers located the sheep and began moving the sheep towards the field.
“The sheep then crossed both live dual carriageways and began running on the A66 towards Appleby.
“Officers would like to thank the members of public who stopped to help herd the sheep – not only did you put your own lives and vehicles on the line but helped save many others avoiding a collision.”
