Jonty Gorley’s rundown of Workington Town’s pre-season

Workington Town head coach Jonty Gorley (Ben Challis)

Things have been a little different at Workington Town as they build up to an exciting season with the launch of the new Championship.

Coach Jonty Gorley hasn’t been at full throttle as he recovers from the health issue that put him out of action at the end of last season.

There have been no friendly matches so far and pre-season training has been unusual in that they have been trying to keep off the Fibrus Community pitch.

Dean Marwood has left the coaching group through work commitments, which has meant long-serving Carl Forber stepping up his involvement with the squad.

Club stalwart Matthew Johnston has also been heavily involved with his strength and conditioning work.

Zarrin Galea and Lucas Castle have been home to Australia to visit family but are back, looking fit and fired up for a new season which officially starts next Sunday with the annual Ike Southward Memorial Trophy game with Whitehaven at the Fibrus Community Stadium.

Looking ahead to that game and with an appraisal of the squad’s preparation coach Jonty Gorley has given Cumbria Crack an exclusive rundown in what’s been happening ahead of the clash with Haven. Listen below:
