Drivers are reminded that the M6 remains closed this weekend.
It is closed between Junction 39 at Shap and Junction 40 at Penrith from 8pm on Friday January 2.
It will reopen on Monday, January 5 at 5am.
Clifton railway bridge is being replaced.
The previous Clifton bridge is nearly 60 years old and weight restrictions mean it can only carry one train at a time, causing delays to services.
The new bridge, measuring 130m in length and weighing around 4,200 tonnes, will be installed by Network Rail and delivery partner Skanska above the motorway at Clifton close to Penrith.
The removal of the previous bridge and installation of the new structure began on the evening of New Year’s Eve.
No trains will run on the West Coast Main Line from Oxenholme to Carlisle until the morning of January 15.
The M6 will also be shut from 8pm on Friday January 9 until 5am Monday January 12.
National Highways is urging drivers to avoid this section of the M6 and consider other routes.
If that’s not possible, plan ahead and allow extra time or look at retiming your trip.
Demolition of the bridge was delayed after it slipped unexpectedly to one side after some of the tension cables had been cut in preparation for the work.

Carlisle-based Peacock Precision Services has been working on the project.
It has supported Tier 1 building and civils contractor Kilnbridge in setting out the site for the past three months to get it ready for the new bridge to be manoeuvred into place.
Kieron Peacock, the company’s managing director, said: “It’s been a privilege to provide engineering services on such a major project, and an honour to be asked by Kilnbridge and Skanska to carry out this important work.
“It has been a real team effort working in partnership with some of the UK’s largest contractors, and everyone involved has played their part to getting the site ready in time.
“Our team makes sure everything is prepared to the exact measurements on the drawings so the bridge can be smoothly lowered into place. There is no room for error; everything needs to be accurate to the nearest millimetre.
“The reason Peacock Precision Services invests in the highest value engineering equipment is to guarantee the levels of precision and accuracy essential to ensuring there are no delays in high-profile projects such as this.”
