A £75,000 appeal has been launched by RSPCA Westmorland to build a new cattery in Kendal.
Due to a rise in calls for help in cats and the increased complexity of cases, the charity needs a cattery to house the vulnerable animals.
Set up in 1965, RSPCA Westmorland is an independent branch of the RSPCA.
It has rescued and helped thousands of animals in need using boarding facilities and a dedicated group of fosterers.
Smokey Joe, was a a five-week-old kitten abandoned after Appleby Horse Fair.
After a quick vet check, Smokey Joe was rushed to a foster carer where he found the warmth, nutrition, and love he needed to recover from his ordeal, preparing for a positive future.
He is living in an old people’s home.
Branch manager Christine Lowe said: “RSPCA Westmorland receives hundreds of calls about cats every year from our local community looking for help with rehoming, straying or injured cats.
“These new facilities will be able to help us care for these cats, ensuring they have the second chance they so deserve.
“We are excited to have partnered with Kendal College to ensure these facilities can also be used to train the next generation of animal welfare professionals in our region.
“The people of Westmorland are amazing. As animal lovers they have always got behind our branch to make sure we are able to help as many animals as possible in our region and we hope that they will really get behind us to ensure we can build this vital facility for Westmorland.
“We are calling on individuals, community groups and local businesses to get involved and make a difference for cats!”
