
A Penrith building was evacuated and a road closed following reports of a gas leak.
Emergency services were called to Market Square yesterday, Monday January 12.
A cordon was put in place in the Market Square and Cornmarket area.
Newcastle Building Society has been evacuated and firefighters ventilated properties in the vicinity.
Gas engineers were called out and there were no reports of anyone hurt or affected or any risk to the public.
Market Square was closed northbound due to the incident.
High levels of carbon monoxide were found in the area.
