Choosing the right setting for a child to spend their formative years is widely regarded as one of the most important decisions a parent has to make.

The Early Years Foundation Stage department at Austin Friars in Carlisle has been carefully designed with this responsibility in mind.

Pupils in Pre-School and Kindergarten (Nursery and Reception) are welcomed into a nurturing environment that encourages independence, curiosity and confidence from the very start of their school journey.

With an emphasis on fostering a positive attitude to learning, children are supported in developing their own character and opinions through decision-making, problem-solving and planning their own actions – all while gaining a strong sense of independence.

In addition to specialist subject teaching in areas such as languages and arts, pupils benefit from on-site amenities designed to enrich learning and support wellbeing.

Raised vegetable beds are tended to by each class and the school’s recently developed Forest School allows children to deepen their knowledge and skills in the outdoors.

Austin Friars also provides a seamless educational experience which allows pupils to build strong relationships with their future teachers before moving confidently into senior school.

He said: “The teachers at Austin Friars go above and beyond to tailor each child’s learning experience, ensuring that they feel happy and supported.

“I would recommend the school to anyone looking for a community that truly cares for both its pupils and parents.”

Families are being invited to experience Austin Friars’ EYFS environment first-hand by attending a complimentary Stay and Play session on Wednesday January 21.

Led by an Early Years professional, the session will offer parents the chance to observe learning in action, meet staff, ask questions and experience what makes Austin Friars unique.
