Workington Reds boss Billy Barr hopes to have a new face at training tonight in the build-up to another big game.
The Reds entertain new NPL Premier Division leaders Hebburn Town on Saturday and Barr’s efforts to strengthen the squad may have borne fruit.
He went to watch an NPL West Division game on Saturday after being recommended a player, but this is not the one he’s expecting tonight.
Barr said: “This is one I’ve been chasing for a few weeks now and I’m hoping we can get him signed for Saturday when he’s been training tonight.
“I was advised to go and watch a certain player and actually there were a number of good players on display.”
Reds have drawn their last three games, but two of them should have been victories as they were denied by virtually the last kick in both.
Barr was particularly pleased with the way Reds played in their 2-2 draw at FC United of Manchester when they outplayed their hosts to lead 2-0 only to be pegged back in the 87th and 95th minutes.
Hebburn went top on Tuesday night when they beat Whitby Town 3-1 at home, edging ahead of big hitters Hednesford and FC United.
“It’s going to be a really difficult game but we are going to give it our best shot. They have just gone top after 11 wins in 12 games and they are the highest scorers in the league.
“I’m waiting to hear whether Tyler is available but the latest casualty was Tom Stephenson with a hamstring injury at FC United.
“I’d like to think we can have the same backing as we had against Lancaster on New Year’s Day,” he said.
