A new pedestrian crossing and overnight road resurfacing works are set to take place in Carlisle.
Cumberland Council will be carrying out the improvements from Monday 9 February. Both sets of road works will take three weeks to complete overall.
Civil engineering works will begin at the junction of Kingstown Road and Windsor Way to replace ageing traffic signals and install a new signalised pedestrian crossing.
Subject to weather and site conditions, the works are expected to take around three weeks.
Temporary traffic signals will operate throughout, with working hours between 9.00am and 5.00pm, Monday to Friday.
The temporary traffic lights will be managed daily by an on-site operative.
Access arrangements during the works will be as follows:
- No on-street parking will be permitted within the working area during operational hours (9.00am–5.00pm, Monday to Friday).
- Resident and business access will be maintained where possible, with on-site marshals available to provide assistance.
- Emergency services, pedestrians, and dismounted cyclists will have access at all times.
As part of the Carlisle Southern Gateway project, overnight resurfacing works will also take place on English Street.
The works will also start on Monday 9 February 2026 and will last one week.
To minimise daytime disruption, the works will be carried out between 7.00pm and 6.00am, during which time evening road closures will be in place.
