A bid to create an orchard in Workington has been destroyed by vandals in Workington.
Town mayor David Farrar and the town council’s estates team planted 200 saplings and erected stakes and protection guards on land at Siddick on Tuesday morning.
The town council’s aim was to enhance the area for local residents and encourage more wildlife into the area by creating an orchard.
However, when the estates team returned yesterday to check the area, everything had been destroyed.
Workington Town Council said: “All 200 trees, stakes and protection guards have been removed and destroyed in an act of senseless vandalism.

“We are deeply saddened and can’t understand why anyone would do this. The police have been informed.”
