The A66 has reopened to traffic.
The road was closed in both directions between Brough and Bowes due to snowfall in the area this morning.
National Highways said the road was closed between the A685 and the A67 as the snowfall was concentrated in the area.
National Highways area team crews were on the scene with winter treatment vehicles working to clear and treat the carriageway.
Extra resources had been deployed to help with the recovery of HGVs stricken within the closure this morning.
Cumbria police also attended, helping to clear the traffic.
The B6276 has also been closed from Brough to the county border near Middleton-in-Teesdale.
It follows the closure of the A66 by National Highways and to avoid motorists attempting to get around the A road closure by cutting through trying to use unsuitable minor roads and getting stuck, said Westmorland & Furness Council.
